Grounding behaviours with conversational interfaces: effects of embodiment and failures

چکیده
Abstract Conversational interfaces that interact with humans need to continuously establish, maintain and repair common ground in task-oriented dialogues. Uncertainty, repairs acknowledgements are expressed user behaviour the continuous efforts of conversational partners mutual understanding. Users change their when interacting systems different forms embodiment, which affects abilities these observe users’ recurrent social signals. Additionally, intellectually biased towards activity facing anthropomorphic agents or presented subtle cues. Two studies this paper examining how a referential communication task wizarded embodiment. In study 1 (N = 30), we test whether respond same way agents, embodiment behaviour. 2 44), replicate but introduce failures disrupting process grounding. Findings indicate it is not always favourable for be anthropomorphised communicate non-verbal cues, as human grounding behaviours manipulated.

Deep embodiment: grounding semantics in perceptual modalities
Multi-modal distributional semantic models address the fact that text-based semantic models, which represent word meanings as a distribution over other words, suffer from the grounding problem. This thesis advances the field of multi-modal semantics in two directions. First, it shows that transferred convolutional neural network representations outperform the traditional bag of visual words met...

Essential to meaningful interaction is grounding at the symbolic, conversational, and societal levels. We present ongoing work with Anki’s Cozmo toy robot as a research platform where we leverage the recent words-as-classifiers model of lexical semantics in interactive reference resolution tasks for

متن کاملGrounding Emotions in Human-Machine Conversational Systems
In this paper we investigate the role of user emotions in human-machine goal-oriented conversations. There has been a growing interest in predicting emotions from acted and non-acted spontaneous speech. Much of the research work has gone in determining what are the correct labels and improving emotion prediction accuracy. In this paper we evaluate the value of user emotional state towards a com...

Self-service systems, online help systems, web services, mobile communication devices, remote control systems, and dashboard computers are providing ever more functionality. However, along with greater functionality, the user must also come to terms with the greater complexity and a steeper learning curve. This complexity is compounded by the sheer proliferation of different systems lacking a s...
